As Dr. MaryBeth Lewandowski enters the dressage arena, she quietly composes herself and reassures her horse with subtle physical connection and collection; empowering each other to embrace balance, grace and harmony. The competition begins, and MaryBeth and her horse are a united team performing each dressage task with accuracy and skill. Appearing effortless, the tasks are completed succinctly and in perfect harmony. The precision, fluidity of movement and months of practice paid off. Moments later, she walked over to the judges to accept her blue ribbon for her performance.
Performing at Her Best
MaryBeth understands that when you operate in perfect harmony, great results are inevitable. It was the same way in music. She understood early on that in order to be cohesive, she needed to be able to communicate and connect with the people she performed with. A world-renowned flutist with a bachelors and masters degree in music as well as a doctorate in musical performance, MaryBeth achieved much more than an education. She traveled the world and performed with some of the most respected musicians and symphonies including the National Symphony Orchestra, Washington Ballet Orchestra and the Washington and Baltimore Opera Orchestras. For MaryBeth, music allowed her to not only express herself creatively as a soloist, but also to be in tune with fellow musicians within her ensemble. By working together with other people, she is not only able to create beautiful music, but she creates perfect harmony.
These same skills allowed her to excel as a music professor at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., American University and St. Mary’s College. MaryBeth is not the type of person who settles for mediocrity, she applies focus, dedication and discipline to every endeavor until she masters the skills. This is also evident in her volunteer work through Ride for Life. MaryBeth has been instrumental in raising almost $50,000 for breast cancer research and has personally participated with her horse in the ride for several years. Whether personally or professionally, MaryBeth truly performs at her best when she is connecting with others.
